Post Cardioversion Discharge Instructions

You will need a 1 month follow up appointment with an Advanced Practitioner, unless otherwise instructed. Please call our office at 480-246-3000 if this appointment was not made for you at the time of your discharge from the hospital.

Call if you experience:
  • Chest pain or shortness of breath.
  • Lightheadedness, dizziness or palpitations.

  • Light activity on the day of discharge.
  • Continue to take previous medications including coumadin unless instructed otherwise at discharge.
  • You may use cortisone cream as directed by your physician if skin irriation occurs where the cardioversion pads were placed. This is available at your local pharmacy or grocery store.
  • If you’re on Warfarin, keep your INR between 2-3.

  • No driving for 24 hours after your procedure.
  • Do not hold or stop your anticoagulation medication for 1 month post cardioversion.
